Ben James has just moved to Creede, Colorado when he unexpectedly befriends a burrowing owl named Bot, a mouse named Franklin and a cute girl named Daisy. Unfortunately, he also meets Daisy's brother who is the school bully and must live with a grandfather he's never known. Ben has never met a person, or animal like Bot. Bot wears a lavender hat, dances to music only he can hear, and doesn't care what anyone else thinks of him. With the help of Bot, Ben learns how to make new friends, stand up for himself, and learn forgiveness.

As a lifelong bird hater, I didn't expect to like this book. But the author did a fantastic job of bringing these characters to life and making the lead bird lovable. I highly recommend this book for you and your kids.

Casey Corine Hutson grew up in Texas and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida when she was 19 years old. Casey was taught to oil paint by her grandmother when she was 8 years old. In the fourth grade, she had a poem published in the local paper. After moving to Florida, she graduated with an AA from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and a BA in English from Florida Atlantic University. Casey published a poetry book The Pretty Side of Interesting when she was 23. At the age of 30, Casey published her first novel, Kismet. Barney Owl Tree “Bot” is her first foray into children’s literature. A lover of nature and animals, Bot was the brainchild of both a love of owls and being a mother. Casey resides in Fort Lauderdale with her husband, her two children, and countless rescue animals.
